AI to transform the science paper information to knowledge

Recently I wrote an article about, Healthcare 4.0 is not a myth anymore and it's happening now. There are 12 technology and Innovations are going to reshape the healthcare on 2020. Though my this article series I will give you a good understanding of each of this technology innovations and why they are reshape the healthcare on 2020. Let's call this series care2020 (#care2020) and this is the part 5. Previous was one was - Artificial intelligence to fight cancer.


A lot of research is happening everywhere. A lot of amazing people putting their heart and soul to make such innovative, academic or empirical research. But did we ever think about, how many research paper getting published every year? According to research from the University of Ottawa, in 2009 we passed the 50 million mark in terms of the total number of science papers published since 1665, and approximately 2.5 million new scientific papers are published each year.
Every year, more than 2.5 million peer-reviewed research papers are published—far too many for any individual scientist to digest, understand or even read. However, our computers don’t share this human limitation. From that idea an AI company named, BenevolentAI has created algorithms that scour research papers, clinical trial results and other sources of biomedical information in search of previously overlooked relationships between genes, drugs and disease. BenevolentAI CEO Joanna Shields was an executive at companies such as Google and Facebook, and then the U.K.’s Minister for Internet Safety and Security, before joining BenevolentAI. A frequent critic of the tech industry’s lapses in protecting young people from exploitation and abuse online, Shields sees BenevolentAI as an opportunity to harness technology’s power for good. Joanna Shields was saying -
All of us have family members, friends who are diagnosed with diseases that have no treatment.She also added -
Unless we apply the scaling and the principles of the technology revolution to drug discovery and development, we’re not going to see a change in that outcome anytime soon.
